Professional Conduct and Leadership

The teacher understands education as a profession, maintains standards of professional conduct, and provides leadership to improve student learning and well-being.

To show that I have met the requirements for the Professional Conduct and Leadership standard, I have chosen my "Assignment C" from my SPED 405 class. In the assignment, we were asked to read three different case studies of students with special needs. We were then instructed to choose lesson plans we had already written and change them to suit the special needs of the three students. I chose one lesson plan for a middl school age student, and another for two high school age students. I then answered questions about what kind of accomodations I would make in the lesson plan itself, in my classroom in general, assessment practices, and behavioral accomdations.

This artifact meets the requirements for this standard because I feel that a large part of professionalism in education revolves around putting your students and their needs first. This artifact shows that I understand how to and can behave in a professional manner by interacting with my students as an instructor, while still integrating real care for my students. Additionally, because I use my leadership skills to both implement and tailor my lesson plans to my individual students' needs, this artifact also demonstrates the fact that I use my leadership skills to focus on and improve student learning and well-being. I take emotional, social, and physical well-being into account in my lesson plansin addition to their academic advancement, especially in the accomodations I make for my students with special needs.
